Pay Us Our Benefits- Sacked Workers Tell ExxonMobil

Recently, 238 contract staff of the Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) Unlimited in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom were sacked and they have since been appealing for payment of their disengagement benefits to be paid. Mr Elioto Emmanuel, who is representing the sacked workers made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibeno on Sunday, 19th October, 2014. Emmanuel said the sacked staff were surprised at the company's action to deal such a hard blow on them because no reason was given for their sack. He said,"We were shocked because the oil company did not give us any tangible reasons for disengaging us and nobody expected it. After the Sallah break, we went to work and heard that ExxonMobil had sacked 238 of us and no reason was given for that." Emmanuel went ahead to say that since they were relieved from their job two weeks ago, they had been facing hard times. He appealed to the company to pay them their disengagement benefits to enable them venture into their own businesses. The affected staff worked at the company's Qua Iboe terminal, airstrip and estate. Mr Ozemoya Okordion, the Manager, Public and Government Affairs (Media and Communication) ExxonMobil, confirmed the sack but did not give reasons for it. The sacked workers deserve an explanation for their sack as well as receiving their benefits for services they have rendered to the company. Source: Vanguard
