Over 17million Eligible Voters Endorse Jonathan- TAN

Activities were paralysed in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, for several hours on Saturday as the Transformation Agenda NigeriaT(AN), one of the groups campaigning for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, held its nationwide grand finale rally in the city. The rally was held at the Eagle Square which saw top government functionaries including Vice President Namadi Sambo, state governors, members of the National Assembly led by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekwueremadu, members of the Federal Executive Committee (FEC) and members of diplomatic Communities in attendance. TAN, through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Ayim Pius Ayim, presented a pack of register containing over 17 million signatures of Nigerians across the six geo-political zones who endorsed the re-election of President Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election to Vice President Sambo for onward delivery to the president. The break down of the signatures collected in each of the zones as delivered by Anyim Pius Anyim are as follows: South-South(4.1m), South-East (1.6m), South-West (1.8m), North-Central (1.2m), North- East (1.1m) and North-West(2.3m). He disclosed that all the signatures contained in the registers were verifiable with names, addresses and telephone numbers, and that anytime such phone numbers were called, owners would be readily available for verification. Senator Ayinm explained that the initial signatures collected by TAN stood at over 12.2m and later rose to over 17m due to sensitization of Nigerians about the excellent performance of President Jonathan that demanded continuity in office. He urged the VP to deliver the pack of registers containing the signatures to President Jonathan for immediate action. Receiving the documents, the VP assured TAN, and indeed, the entire nation as well as the international community that President Jonathan would soon respond positively to the clarion calls by the group and other well-meaning Nigerians to contest in 2015. While stating that the signatures collected by TAN did not only demonstrate the popularity of President Jonathan in the country but further proved his acceptability across the six geo-political zones in the country, Sambo enjoined TAN and others to continue to propagate the good work of the administration among Nigerians and beyond. Also speaking, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)governors' forum, who is also the governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, declared that all the PDP governors were solidly behind Jonathan in his bid to contest in the 2015 presidential elections. And the question is posed, will 17million people who have registered for GEJ be just enough to win him the Presidential seat come next year? Source: Tribune
